Relationship anxiety
Relationship anxiety and overthinking: separate facts from fear
When connection feels uncertain, the mind may search messages, tone and silence for proof. Slowing the interpretation down can protect both clarity and self-respect.
Write the fact before the story
A fact might be ‘They have not replied since yesterday.’ The story might be ‘They are losing interest.’ Keeping them separate does not dismiss intuition; it prevents fear from presenting itself as certainty.
Identify the reassurance you are chasing
Ask what answer would make you feel safe and how long that reassurance would last. Repeated checking can create brief relief without resolving the deeper need for trust, clarity or consistency.
Choose a direct question
When communication is appropriate, ask about the real issue without testing, hinting or sending multiple messages. A clear question gives the other person a fair chance to respond and gives you better information.
