Sleep & overthinking
How to stop overthinking at night without fighting your mind
Night removes distractions and gives unfinished worries a louder room. Instead of demanding silence, give the mind a clear place to put what it is carrying.
Move the problem out of your head
Write three lines: what is worrying you, what can wait and the first step for tomorrow. The point is not to solve everything in bed; it is to show your mind that the concern has been stored somewhere reliable.
Lower stimulation, not pressure
Soften one physical signal such as light, sound or temperature. Telling yourself that you must sleep creates another performance test. A gentler target is simply to make the next ten minutes less stimulating.
If the thought returns
Use the same sentence each time: ‘This matters, and I have given it a place for tomorrow.’ Repetition can become a boundary between planning time and resting time.
